What are the responsibilities and job description for the Wastewater Facilities Maintenance Supervisor position at City of Redlands?
Exercises direct supervision over assigned staff.
- Supervises, schedules, and directs personnel;
- Participates in the maintenance, repair, and installation of industrial motor controls, mechanical, and electrical equipment at the City's wastewater treatment facility;
- Responds to and investigates complaints and reports of electrical malfunction;
- Performs maintenance, adjustments, repairs, and field replacements or removals of defective or damaged equipment;
- Develops and performs a regular inspection schedule of equipment and machinery;
- Troubleshoots electrical and mechanical problems and determines the extent of necessary repairs;
- Makes repairs as appropriate;
- Designs, lays out, and fabricates equipment parts;
- Rebuilds broken equipment and parts as necessary;
- Performs preventive maintenance procedures on plants, equipment, and machinery;
- Coordinates and participates in a wide variety of activities and work relating to the maintenance and repair of the wastewater treatment plant and associated facilities;
- Sets goals, objectives, and schedules for the maintenance of the wastewater treatment facility and associated facilities;
- Maintains wastewater maintenance and organizational records;
- Participates in the maintenance of daily wastewater plant and associated facilities records;
- Supervises and participates in the expansion of existing facilities and the construction of new wastewater treatment, storage, and related facilities, as well as associated instrumentation systems;
- Assists with expansion and construction planning;
- Participates in preparing and implementing the budget;
- Assists in the preparation of cost estimates for budget recommendations;
- Coordinates wit Division Supervisors to maintain adequate inventory of operational supplies necessary for facility maintenance and repairs;
- Prepares justifications for enhancement of wastewater treatment and recycled water facilities;
- Recommends materials, supplies, and the requisition or reorder of replacements as required;
- Supervises and participates in the maintenance of daily records of equipment operating conditions;
- Assists with scheduling preventive maintenance projects;
- Reads and interprets drawings, blueprints, and specifications to guide maintenance, repairs, and installations;
- Inspects completed projects, systems, and installations to ensure compliance with prepared plans and specifications;
- Organizes projects in accordance with available personnel, equipment, and materials;
- Assigns proper personnel and equipment to achieve desired outcomes;
- Provides recommendations for upgrading systems, equipment, and operational techniques to improve efficiency and performance;
- Develop field techniques to increase efficiency and reduce costs;
- Prepares, maintains, and presents routine progress reports and other special reports as requested;
- Supervises, trains, and evaluates assigned personnel; and
- Performs related duties and responsibilities as assigned.
- Five years of progressively responsible experience in the maintenance, repair, and installation of industrial motor controls, mechanical and electrical equipment, as well as in the operation, maintenance, and construction of wastewater treatment facilities, life stations, storage facilities, and percolation ponds. Experience in a leadership or supervisory capacity is preferred.
- Equivalent to a high school diploma supplemented by relevant coursework or certification in engineering, wastewater technology, wastewater treatment, industrial maintenance or a related field.
- Possession and maintenance of, or the ability to obtain and maintain, a valid California driver's license at the time of appointment; and
- California Water Environmental Association Mechanical Technologist, or other equivalent trade certification recognized by the California Department of Industrial Relations.
- Ability to work in a standard office environment. Ability to work outside. Ability to travel to different sites and locations. Ability to sit, stand, walk, kneel, crouch, stoop, squat, climb, and lift 50 lbs.; exposure to extreme temperatures, noise, outdoors, chemicals, explosive materials, mechanical hazards, and electrical hazards. Ability to respond to emergency call-out situations and perform standby duty for emergency response after hours.
