About Us:
Every summer the City of Redmond Parks and Recreation Department hires seasonal maintenance aides who keep our parks and trails clean, safe and enjoyable for community members and visitors.
The City of Redmond has an extensive park and trail system throughout the city and portions of King County. The system includes 1,351 acres of land across the city in a variety of neighborhoods, serving as a place for the community to gather and enjoy the great outdoors. Our biodiverse parks and thriving downtown are connected by a local connector to regional trails, as well, bringing more visitors to our city and Redmond’s small businesses. There are 59 miles of public trails in Redmond and 39 of those miles are owned and operated by the City.
Important Position Details:
- The Supplemental Seasonal Parks Maintenance Aide is a six-month duration position starting April 1, 2025. Delayed start dates are possible for certain positions; however, all positions will end by September 30, 2025.
- Shifts are scheduled between 6AM and 4PM, seven days a week and are typically eight to nine hours, depending on crew assignment.
- Successful applicants must provide own steel-toed, safety boots (City will provide 50% toward that purchase, not to exceed $100).
Locations: Work locations will vary pending crew assignment. Work will be based around Redmond parks and trails, municipal properties, and rights of way.
ROLE & RESPONSIBILITIES
Seasonal Parks Maintenance Aides work with full-time Park Maintenance Technicians performing routine tasks within Park Maintenance programs including:
- Turf maintenance - mowing and trimming grass areas;
- Sports field maintenance - field preparation;
- Facility maintenance - litter pick-up, restroom cleaning , and court cleaning;
- Preventative maintenance - small repairs and pressure washing;
- Horticultural maintenance - shrub bed and flower maintenance;
- Urban forestry - trail and tree maintenance;
- Facility repair - carpentry and other skills necessary to make repairs to park facilities and municipal buildings; and
- Performing other duties as assigned.

Physical Demands
Work is performed primarily outdoors in varying weather conditions. Employee risks physical hazard from traffic and equipment and exposure to fumes and paint. Physical effort is required to perform heavy manual labor in uncomfortably, confined and dirty conditions. Physical agility, stamina and ability to lift 50 pounds is required.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education, Experience and Other Requirements
Education and Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent. Experience in maintenance or other related work preferred.
- Valid Washington State driver's license by date of hire and a driving record that meets City standards.
- Possession of a valid flagging card and an adult first aid/CPR card is desirable

Offers of employment are conditional based on the candidate successfully passing both background and reference checks. Internal candidates are subject to passing a new background if the previous check was conducted more than six months ago.
Additionally, new hires relocating to the area are required to have Washington State residency within 30 days of their start date to comply payroll tax purposes.
