Under general supervision, Police Cadets perform administrative support functions in the Police Department and other related duties as assigned.
This is a continuous recruitment and may close at any time without notice. Prompt application is highly encouraged. Police Cadet is an at-will, part-time position which is not eligible for City benefits. Only those applicants in which the department is interested will receive further contact after application submission.
- Typing and operating computer equipment
- Filing
- Answering telephones and providing assistance at the front counter or desk position
- Assisting in the maintenance of the Police facilities and vehicles
- Processing Livescan fingerprint applications
- Directing traffic
- Assisting the department as needed
- Performing other required duties as assigned by supervisors or department personnel
- Work effectively with the public
- Work irregular hours, including holidays and weekends
- Read, speak, write and understand the English language
- Write reports
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with others
- Satisfactorily complete security background investigations
- Meet physical employment standards for this classification
- Perform other related duties as required
- 18 years of age at the time of appointment.
- Possession of a valid California Driver License.
- Current enrollment in a two-year college or four-year university, with a minimum of twelve (12) semester units and a GPA of 2.0 or better.
- Police Cadets that have completed 120 or more college units, or have obtained their desired degree / certification, would be required to complete a minimum of 9 units each semester with a 2.0 GPA or better to remain in the program.
- Police Cadets who are being actively recruited or are in the processing stages of hiring for a law enforcement career may also remain in the Police Cadet program.
SELECTION PROCESS:
The selection process may include but is not limited to: Application review and evaluation, written examination, performance test, assessment test, and/or interview. All employment offers made by the City are contingent upon establishing proof of a prospective candidate's legal authorization to work in the United States and successfully passing all components of the pre-employment process, such as: reference check, background investigation, fingerprint criminal history check, post-offer drug test, post-offer psychological and post-offer medical examination, the cost of which will be borne by the City.
Candidates must fill out the employment application and supplemental questions completely and accurately. Incomplete applications, including references to "see resume", are considered incomplete and will be disqualified.
