The City of Redondo Beach Police Department is looking for dedicated individuals to who are ready to serve our seaside community. Police Officers are vital members of the Redondo Beach team, contributing to the success of the Community and the Department.
Police Officer Pre-Service candidates must satisfy one of the following requirements in order to apply:
- Current enrollment in a POST-Certified Basic Academy course
- Attach proof of current enrollment to your electronic application, such as a letter from the academy
- Successful completion of a POST-Certified Basic Academy course within the last 12 months of the application date
- Attach proof of completion to your electronic application
- Successful completion of a POST-Certified Basic Academy course without successful completion of a field training program at another agency within the last 18 months.

Under the direction of the Police Chief, the position performs law enforcement in compliance with California Penal Code 830.1 and meets and maintains all standards required by the California Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training including but not limited to:
- Patrolling assigned areas of the City in a vehicle and responding to routine calls
- Investigating suspicious persons and circumstances
- Reacting quickly, efficiently and calmly in emergency situations
- Responding to major incidents reported to the Police Department using the Incident Command System/Standardized Emergency Management Systems (ICS/SEMS) protocol
- Performing first aid, CPR and operating AED devices
- Enforcing traffic laws, issuing citations, conducting field sobriety tests, investigating collisions
- Appearing in court to present evidence and testimony
- Acting with honesty, integrity, honor, courage, self-confidence, maturity, tolerance and stamina
- Performing other related duties as required
- Possess a high school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent
- Be at least 21 years of age at the time of appointment
- Possess a valid Class C California Department of Motor Vehicles driver's license
- Pre-Service candidates must satisfy one of the following requirements:
- Current enrollment in a California Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training Basic Academy;
- Or, possession of a valid P.O.S.T. Basic Academy Completion Certificate, issued within the prior twelve (12) months of the date of application
- Or, possession of a valid P.O.S.T. Basic Academy Completion Certificate without successful completion of a field training program at another agency within the last eighteen (18) months
- Or, applicants that have served at least one day in a field training program at another agency with a separation date within the last three (3) years of the date of application.
CLASSIFICATION: This position qualifies for coverage under FLSA standards and is a member of the classified service.
APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS:
- Attachment of your P.O.S.T. Basic Academy Completion Certificate or proof of current enrollment in a P.O.S.T. Basic Academy
- Ten (10) years of past work history (any employment)
SELECTION PROCESS:
The selection process may include but is not limited to: application review and evaluation, written examination, performance test and interview. All employment offers made by the City are contingent upon establishing proof of a prospective candidate's legal authorization to work in the United States and successfully passing all components of the pre-employment process, such as: reference check, background investigation, fingerprint criminal history check, post-offer drug test, post-offer psychological and post-offer medical examination, the cost of which will be borne by the City.
