Job Description
This position performs responsible semi-skilled work to maintain the City’s sewer collection system.
Job Duties
Work will involve the use of a variety of tools and light and medium equipment. Work will involve routinely flushing lines to prevent blockages and back-ups of sewage in the sewer mains. Employee will work with a crew leader to mow and maintain sewer right-of-ways throughout the city. This position is required to check all high priority service lines multiple times a year to maintain compliance with the State. Employees in this position also rod four-inch (4”) service lines from individual property lines to the affected main, as needed, if a sewer clean-out is available at the property/right-of-way line. In addition, the employee works with a crew to repair/replace sewer mains and services inside the right-if-way within staff and equipment capabilities.

Required Qualifications
Employee must possess a working knowledge of the methods and techniques applied in semi-skilled trades work. Possess a working knowledge of the standard practices, material, tools, and equipment utilized in the area of assigned work. Ability to read and write and some related experience in the specific trade area assigned.
Valid North Carolina Driver’s License. A valid NC Commercial Driver’s Class B license is required.

Physical Demands
Work in this class is described as moderately strenuous using a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects and may occasionally require some physical exertion to complete tasks. An employee must be able to physically perform the basic life operational functions of climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, walking, standing, pushing, pulling, fingering, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, and repetitive motions. An employee must possess the visual acuity to be the operator of trucks, forklifts, cranes and other equipment. The employee is subject to both environmental conditions inside and outside. The employee is subject to hazards, occasionally works near moving mechanical parts and in high, precarious places, and is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, risks of electrical shock, oils and vibration.
