Job Description
Perform technical, and physically labor-intensive tasks in support of the Public Works department. Work is performed independently and as part of a team. Tasks completed with general guidelines and require some independent judgment. Contribute to the City's vision, mission, and goals in the performance of all job duties.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS :
Maintains calibration, configuration control, preventative maintenance, and system integrity records required by internal and external directives; recommends calibration intervals; performs routine alignment and calibration of electronic and electrical equipment.Ensures the effective and efficient operation of electrical, electronic, and related instrumentation associated with all aspects of various city facilities.Utilizes a variety of modern testing equipment to troubleshoot and isolate issues with instrumentation, electrical and electronic components and equipment.Inspects new construction for compliance with city standards and specifications; reports issues or concerns to supervisor or project manager and inspection as required.Interfaces with vendors, city and other utility personnel on the operation and repair of city equipment and facilities; plans, coordinates, inspects, and participates with city staff and contractors in the development of systems and equipment used in the operation and automation of city facilities.Plans, monitors, and conducts electrical preventative maintenance; provides training and technical advice to operational staff as required.Responds to emergency and off-hour situations.Coordinates with vendors to resolve issues with instrumentation, electrical and electronic components; plans, coordinates, and monitors special projects with outside contractors; orders materials and components for repairs and / or modifications at facilities.Follow all safety regulations, policies and procedures; operates equipment in a safe and efficient manner in a variety of hazardous environments.Maintains accurate historical records, files, and data; assists in the generation of monthly, bi-annual, annual, and five year reports; maintains records.Remain current with relevant technological advancements as it relates to field.Program digital computerized systems.Thermal-imaging of City electrical systems.Prepare backboards and panels, mount transformers, use ammeters, volt meters, power analyzers, relays, switches, lighting, and other equipment and apparatus as required.Check, recalibrate, and clean relays, various types of meters and instruments.String wire, pull cable, hoist tools, and repair equipment.Operate air compressors, electric drills, drill presses, pipe threading equipment, rotary hammers, and other power driven and hand operated mechanical and electrical tools.Maintain adequate inventory of parts and supplies on truck; determine and requisition or purchase parts and supplies according to established procedures.Maintain all work and equipment records.Read and interpret blue prints.Remain current with relevant technological advancements as it relates to the electrical field.Maintain regular, reliable, and punctual attendance; work weekends / overtime as required (eligibility pursuant to collective bargaining agreement).Follow all safety standards required in the electrical industry and city policy.Contribute to an environment of teamwork and respect.Foster a culture of equity and inclusion by recognizing the diverse needs and perspectives of groups and individuals.Remain current with relevant technological advancements as it relates to field.Participate in and help provide cross-training in processes as directed by management to ensure a well-rounded team for coverage purposes.Maintain regular, reliable, and punctual attendance.Perform other duties as assigned.May be assigned to support City priorities during emergencies.For a complete job description please see the Electrical Technician description.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND LICENSE REQUIREMENTS :
Minimum 3 years journey-level electrical mechanical experience working with hydraulic and pneumatic systems, pumps, motors, control valves and building maintenance.Journey-Level Electrician Certification (01). (Note : Candidates with electrical certification from another state must obtain the Washington State certification as required by Labor & Industries within one month of hire.)Valid driver's license.Successful passing of a required driving record check.Successful passing of a required background check and national fingerprint-based records check.Must obtain in one year from hire a valid first aid / CPR certificate issued by an authorized agency.PHYSICAL DEMANDS :

Employees accrue vacation beginning with the first day of employment as follows : 12 days per year (0-5 years); 18 days per year (6-10 years); 21 days per year (11-15 years); 24 days per year (16-20 years); and 27 days per year (21 years).Employees may access their vacation after six months of employment.Sick Leave
