The City of Renton’s Finance Team is recruiting for an Accounting Assistant 4 - Tax & Licensing vacancy. Our unit strives to partner with businesses through education, customer support, and services in assisting them with their tax and license obligations. This position is part of a team that focuses on City tax and license requirements including Business Licensing, B&O Tax, Utility Tax, Admission Tax, and Gambling Tax.
The Accounting Assistant 4 is an entry-level classification responsible for assisting in the day-to-day operations and ensuring compliance with City code which include communicating with businesses by phone/email, processing daily payments, performing revenue reconciliations, issuing refunds, initiating monthly mailings, reviewing tax and license forms for accuracy, and researching tax and license requirements to assist taxpayers.

Telework Program:
The City of Renton supports workers performing in a hybrid capacity (partial telework/in-office) where job responsibilities can be performed remotely. This position may be eligible for a telework arrangement, up to 2 days remote, based on the operational needs of the City and specific Department. Regardless of job title or telework arrangement, City of Renton employees must reside in Washington State and within a reasonable distance to their worksite to respond to workplace reporting requirements.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Review financial data from a variety of source documents and verify for accuracy, completeness and compliance with established City policies and procedures as well as generally accepted accounting principles; classify, code, and process transactions into a centralized or personal computer; audit and verify accuracy of system generated audits and reports; balance and resolve discrepancies as they arise.
- Monitor and verify billing information, purchase orders, invoices, claim forms, cash receipts and other related documents; assure the completeness and accuracy of the information; prepare necessary adjusting entries or initiate requests for adjustments.
- Analyze data and prepare financial summaries; research information and prepare narrative explanations as requested; compile data for a variety of reports required by federal, state, local agencies, and the City.
- Prepare, maintain, analyze, and distribute a variety of forms, documents, and reports, including checks and invoices.
- Process billing requests, revenue receipting, ; process accounts payable such as payment to vendor accounts, advance travel funds, employee reimbursements; assist other departments in distributed data input.

- Participate in and help provide cross-training in processes as directed by management to ensure a well-rounded team for coverage purposes.

- Perform other duties as assigned.
- May be assigned to support critical city priorities during emergencies.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND LICENSE REQUIREMENTS:
- 2 years college level course work, Associate’s degree or Bachelor’s in accounting or closely related field.
- Minimum of 3 years of finance and/or accounting experience.
- Or 5 years of relevant education and experience.
- Successful passing of a required background check and credit check.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- Move throughout City facilities and buildings.
- Operate a computer and other office equipment.
- Communicate with City employees and residents.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
- Work is performed in an office environment.
- Noise level in the office is moderately quiet.
- Work evening and/or weekend hours as needed.
Salary : $63,072 - $76,836
