IT SYSTEMS SPECIALIST II - Information Technology
JOB SUMMARY:
Under the direction of the System Manager, provide direct support and administration of a wide range of data-center and user systems, including virtual infrastructure, storage arrays, Cisco telephony, and related systems. Exercise independent decision making when making critical changes, and seek approval of supervisors when appropriate. Exercise and implement department policies as communicated by superiors. Perform other related work as required.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Manage, support, repair data-center system and user applications, including Cisco Telephony products (Call Manager, Unity, Presence). Provide support, administration, upgrade, and installation services for a wide range of data-center and user application systems City-wide, including virtual infrastructure, storage arrays, windows servers, linux servers, network equipment, communications links and others. Provide support for TCP/IP network problems. Write and update training materials as appropriate. Work closely with user/customer departments providing system support and installation assistance and advisories. Assist customers with software and equipment problems by telephone and on site. Answer telephone. Work with PC's and associated equipment, and equipment associated with the City’s data-centers. Utilize various software packages including Microsoft Office Professional, Lotus Notes/Domino, all Microsoft Windows-based operation systems, backup software, and other varieties of software. Assist and provide backup to support division as needed. Make arithmetic calculations and perform work efficiently and accurately. Communicate courteously and effectively with other employees, officials, vendors, and the public. Sit, stand, and input data frequently for extended periods of time. Read and understand difficult technical documents and computer screens. Work to maintain familiarity with systems within area of responsibility on ongoing basis. Show initiative to self-teach using a variety of sources. Accurately prioritize workload. Train other IT staff members in supported systems. Work in computer room in cold temperatures and constant noise for long periods of time. Drive to multiple locations to perform duties as required. Respond promptly to outages in mission critical equipment and systems. Some weekend and/or night work is required.
OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS:
Lift, pull, drag, push and carry up to 42 pounds of computer equipment or related supplies.
REQUIRED EDUCATION, DEGREES, CERTIFICATES, AND/OR LICENSES:
Bachelor’s degree in computer science/MIS, or equivalent education and experience required. Valid Texas driver’s license, Class “C”, required.
EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, KNOWLEDGE, AND SKILLS:
Minimum of two (2) years experience required supporting, troubleshooting, and installing Intel-based hardware/software in a Windows environment; and two (2) years experience required in supporting data-center equipment and systems in a mixed environment. Familiarity with Cisco Call Manager products and equipment preferred.
