What are the responsibilities and job description for the Bilingual Naturalist/Recreation Assistant position at City of Richfield, MN?
Under the guidance of nature center and recreation program. Assists with environmental education and recreation programs/events. This position is seasonal in nature and thus temporary.
HOURS
20 hours per week from May 31, 2025 – August 23, 2025. Work week: Monday-Friday, and weekends as scheduled.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
- Assist with environmental education activities for groups of all ages and types of people, with a focus on families and K-5 age group, including summer camps.
- Assists with weekend birthday parties, scout programs and occasional off-site programs as scheduled.
- Assists with on-site recreation programs and special event supervision and needs.
- Collect program forms, injury accident reports, and/or game results and relay information to Supervisor.
- Cancel activities due to weather as needed to maintain safety of the participants and quality of the fields.
- Assist staff with administrative duties including group scheduling, purchasing, telephones, etc.
- Perform light maintenance duties as assigned at the community center and other park facilities, including but not limited to cleaning restrooms, picking up litter, and emptying trash and recycling receptacles.
- Inspect park facilities and grounds for potential maintenance or safety issues, addressing the problems and/or informing Supervisor of those concerns.
- Open buildings and turn on and off lights according to conditions and as scheduled.
- Check on shelter and field reservations for permits.
- Ensure city ordinances and regulations are being followed at parks and programs including but not limited to rules and safety suggestions at the skate park, and tobacco policies.
- Address complaints and relay pertinent information to Supervisor regarding program best practices or issues that need to be addressed.
- Assists with the Urban Wildland Half Marathon and 5K races and must be available to work Saturday July 26, 2025.
- Coordinates efforts to ensure Richfield is an equitable, inclusive, and respectful organization and supports the City’s mission, vision, and core values.
- Attend trainings and staff meetings as required.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Fluent in both English and Spanish
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- possess an active driver’s license.
- A degree in biology, wildlife management, environmental studies, elementary education, environmental education or other field relevant to natural history interpretation.
- Experience working with the public in a fast-paced environment
- Strong familiarity with Richfield, its programs and policies. An ability to conduct programs in a manner consistent with its philosophy.

Must have the ability to:
- Essential functions require maintaining physical condition necessary for moderate physical activity such as standing, walking, kneeling, sitting, crouching, twisting, pushing, pulling, bending, stopping, squatting and lifting materials and supplies ranging from 20-60 lbs.
