What are the responsibilities and job description for the Inclusion Facilitator position at City of Richfield, MN?
Under general supervision of the Adaptive Recreation Supervisor, the work direction of the Playground Coordinator, and as a part of the team of staff, provides assistance to participants with disabilities to ensure a successful recreation experience in the Summer Playground Program and other Recreation summer programming, as needed. Other programming may include tennis lessons, nature programs, etc.
HOURS
27 weekday hours: Monday – Thursday. June 9 through August 1, 2025. Additional hours may available.
Orientation: June 9-12. No program June 19, and June 30-July 4.
This is a seasonal position and is therefore temporary in nature. Position ends at the end of the season.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
- Provides the opportunity for success for all participants by adapting activities, managing behaviors, providing personal cares (may include but not limited to, feeding, toileting, lifting, transferring and changing clothes) and providing any additional assistance as needed.
- Encourages social interactions between and among all participants.
- Assists participants as needed and recognizes when to offer assistance and when to allow natural dynamics to happen in order to help all individuals become part of the group.
- Attends and participates in all staff trainings and weekly meetings.
- Assist playground leaders with essential duties of the Playground Program (may include but are not limited to program development, weekly newsletters, taking daily attendance, and leading activities).
- Cares for and maintains equipment, materials and facilities.
- Ensures safety precautions are taken on the playground at all times.
- Administers first aid for minor injuries sustained on the playground.
- Cooperates and assists in the preparation and implementation of special events and trips.
- Performs light maintenance duties as assigned, including but not limited to cleaning park buildings, restrooms and picking up litter around the buildings or grounds.
- Communicates with parents, program staff and supervisors about the program and participant progress.
- Develops and maintains professional relationships with staff, supervisors and program participants and their family members.
- Coordinates efforts to ensure Richfield is an equitable, inclusive and respectful organization and supports the City’s mission, vision and core values.
- Completes all other duties assigned by the Adaptive Recreation Supervisor.
COMPETENCIES
- Ability to work effectively and communicate with Adaptive Recreation Supervisor, co-workers, volunteers, participants and caregivers/parents.
- Ability to be creative, enthusiastic and flexible.
- Ability to arrive at work on time and must be available for the entire season with limited time off requests.
- Enthusiasm to work with youth with disabilities.
- Ability to refrain from cell phone usage during programs. Cell phone usage is prohibited during programs.
- Demonstrates ability to understand and respect the diversity of customers and co-workers, effectively communicating with individuals whose first language may be one other than English.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Must be at least 15 years of age.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Educational background and/or experience working with various disabilities
- One or more years of experience working in community recreation or education programs.
- Fluency in Spanish, Somali, Vietnamese or other non-English language prevalent in the City of Richfield
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The physical demands that are described herein are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job.
Must have the ability to:
- Maintain physical condition necessary for moderate to heavy outdoor physical activity such as standing, walking, running, kneeling, sitting, crouching, twisting, pushing, pulling, bending, stooping, squatting, and lifting materials and supplies ranging from 20-75 lbs.
