Description
The City of Richmond, Department of Public Utilities - Gas Distribution Division , is seekingqualified individuals to fill the Gas Maintenance Supervisor position. The selected incumbents will be responsible for supervising the workflow for approximately one (1) individual who is involved in the maintenance and repair of gas mains and services, and the installation of gas lines including valves, and fittings.
Duties include but are not limited to
Responding to gas leak calls.
Responding to and completing work orders and gas leak tickets in a timely manner.
Decision making to include shutting down gas mains to allow assigned contractor crew can make repairs as needed.
Ensuring assigned Gas Maintenance Pipeline Technician completes all Operation Qualification tasks.
Incumbents serves as an Essential employee, which means that the incumbent is required to work when the City is closed due to public emergencies, critical or hazardous conditions, or inclement weather.
The selected candidate may be required to work 24 hour on-call, weekend and holiday call duty as scheduled.
Required to respond to after hour emergency calls utilizing assigned take home vehicle.
Qualifications, Special Certifications and Licenses
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES :
Considerable knowledge of computer programs such as Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel an Outlook); GIS mapping; Natural gas pipeline repair, tapping, and shutdown; leak detection equipment and City of Richmond Rules and Standards. Demonstrated skills in oral and written communication; customer service; detecting leaks; disseminating information to first responders; and reading comprehension. Demonstrated ability to supervise; prioritize; problem-solve; establish goals and objectives; and to operate equipment and tools related to assignment.
MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE :
Four years of experience in natural gas / trades.
An equivalent combination of training and experience (as approved by the department) may be used to meet the minimum qualifications of the classification.
LICENSING, CERTIFICATIONS, and / or OTHER SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS :
A valid Commonwealth of Virginia Commercial Driver's License.
PREFERRED TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE :
Possess at least three (3) years of experience in plumbing, installing, or repairing gas mains and services.

The working conditions may include frequent exposure to hazardous physical conditions and hazardous materials; occasional exposure to atmospheric conditions, extreme temperatures, intense noise, travel outside the organization's location, and environmental hazards. In terms of the physical strength to perform the essential duties, this classification is considered to be heavy work, exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
