Installing, testing, repairing, replacing, cleaning, and maintaining plumbing fixtures, pumps, filtration systems and equipment according to plumbing codes, regulations and/or ordinances Measuring, cutting, threading, and bending pipe to required angles, using hand and power tools or machines such as pipe cutters, pipe-threading and bending machines Reviewing blueprints and building codes and specifications to determine work details and procedures Assisting other Trades and general personnel in trouble shooting and correcting facility and equipment problems Keeping records of assignments and completed tasks, and produce detailed work reports Performing other duties as assigned
High school diploma or GED Four (4) Years of journey level plumbing experience An equivalent combination of training and experience (as approved by the department) may be used to meet the minimum qualifications of the classification
Current Plumber license Current and valid driver’s license with a satisfactory driving record and a valid Commonwealth of Virginia driver’s license within 30 days of hire
Knowledge Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of plumbing codes, regulations, ordinances and rules for skilled trades. Knowledge of proper applications for completing work competently, thoroughly and efficiently. Effective oral and written communication skills. Ability in operating, maintaining and repairing pumps. Ability to safely operate power tools, grinders, pipe threading machines and sewer cleaning machines.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT: Due to the nature of work assignments, incumbents must be able to perform detailed work on multiple, concurrent tasks, with frequent interruptions and under time constraint. While performing the essential duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to balance, talk, hear and see; the employee is occasionally required to climb, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, reach extending hands and arms in any direction, stand, walk, push, pull, lift, finger (pick, pinch, type or otherwise work primarily with fingers), and grasp. In terms of the physical strength to perform the essential duties, this classification is considered to be medium work, exerting up to 50 lbs. of force occasionally, up to 20 lbs. of force frequently, and up to 10 lbs. of force constantly to move objects.
