What are the responsibilities and job description for the Technology Engineer/Administrator (DIT) - Database Administration Support - Infrastructure Division position at City of Richmond?
The City of Richmond Department of Information Technology is seeking to fill the need for a Technology Engineer/Administrator. Incumbents perform work as a technology engineers or systems administrators and are considered designated subject matter experts. Incumbents perform skilled assessments, troubleshooting, and administration of user issues, and solve complex database issues. Additionally perform project configuration and design recommendations and documentation as required.
- Configuration and troubleshooting
- Performance reviews and recommendations
- Backups and recovery of databases
- Researching and resolving issues in performance
- Documentation and updating of project documentation as well as trouble tickets
- Providing afterhours support in coordination with an on-call rotation
- Contributing and participating in project review, design, and configuration
- Developing and analyzing reporting documentation with regards to performance, backups, and security
- Providing technical support for daily issues or outages
- Process development for new strategies with regards to database in a production environment
- Providing updates, notifications, and documentation for outages during active sessions
- ITIL change management documentation for all production changes
- Providing timely service and resolutions to services requests and incidents in accordance with SLA’s
- Ensuring production uptime and performance
- Research, documentation, and presenting environmental changes for future areas of improvement and optimization to ensure efficient solutions
- Research and identification of trends and develop areas of improvements as it relates to performance in a production environment
Incumbents serves as an Essential employee, which means that the incumbent is required to work when the City is closed due to public emergencies, critical or hazardous conditions, or inclement weather
The incumbent in this position is required to serve on-call 24 hours/7 days a week to provide leadership for the support and resolution of problems for critical systems and applications within the assigned City of Richmond portfolio.KNOWLEDGE:
- Considerable working background in Microsoft SQL database administration. Architecture and troubleshooting in a working environment.
- Database administration and backup/recovery management. Working knowledge of backing up and restoring of production databases.
- Knowledge of SQL database performance tuning. Monitoring and optimization of database performance.
- Desired working knowledge of database security and management.
- Desired working knowledge of troubleshooting database issues in a production environment.
- Working knowledge of database administration tools. SQL Workbench, SQL Studio, Datadog database monitoring, etc.
- Desired working knowledge of Oracle database administration.
- Desired working knowledge of UNIX (any version would be helpful)
- Knowledge of ITIL Change Management

MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor's degree in computer science or related field
- Two years of journey-level professional systems and network engineering experience
- An equivalent combination of training and experience (as approved by the department) may be used to meet the minimum qualifications of the classification
LICENSING, CERTIFICATIONS, and OTHER SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
- SQL Database Administration (essential)
- SQL Configuration and Management (desired but not essential)
- Oracle DBA (desired but not essential)
- UNIX Administration (desired not essential)
- Working knowledge of Windows SQL 2019 and above
- Desired working knowledge of Oracle 11G, 12C, 18C, and 19C
- Desired working knowledge of UNIX operating systems. Particularly as it relates to storage configuration
- Technical writing skills, project documentation, process and procedures, knowledge base articles for usage and best practices.
Salary : $69,552 - $139,021
