The Office of Community Wealth Building (Youth Engagement Services) is an exciting initiative designed to prepare Richmond youth (ages 18-24) for successful career entry. Our program provides valuable work experiences, career exploration, and essential workplace skills, equipping young individuals for today’s workforce. The Youth Career Advisor plays a critical role in guiding and supporting program participants through their summer career development journey. This position involves facilitating virtual and in-person career sessions, providing one-on-one coaching, and maintaining program records while collaborating with key stakeholders.
- Facilitate day-to-day operations of the Summer Work-Based Learning and Virtual Earn and Learn Program.
- Guide and support approximately 15-25 youth participants through virtual and in-person career sessions.
- Provide individualized career coaching and professional development support.
- Monitor participant progress and performance through Zoom or Microsoft Teams.
- Maintain accurate records of youth activities, timesheets, and assist in report preparation.
- Act as a liaison between youth, parents, training providers, and program staff to resolve challenges.
- Develop and sustain relationships with community organizations serving youth.
- Conduct individual assessments to determine participant skill levels and career readiness.
- Assist in creating personalized career plans for participants.

Minimum Qualifications:
- High-School Diploma, GED or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- 1 year of experience working with youth in career development, education, workforce programs, volunteer, or paid experience.
- Microsoft Office experience (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and virtual collaboration tools.
Working Expectations and Conditions:
- Successful completion of a pre-employment criminal background check.
- Must have reliable transportation (valid Virginia Driver's License)
- Must be able to use a computer and phone.
Extent of Public Contact:
- Daily contact via in-person, email and or telephone.
Location: East District Center, Richmond, VA (Onsite with occasional telework opportunities)
Job Type: Part-time, Temporary
Salary: $25 per hour
Work Schedule: Up to 25 hours per week, Monday – Friday 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Additional hours of work may be discussed on an as needed basis.
Program Dates: June 2, 2025 - August 22, 2025 (No time off permitted during training and first week of the program)

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT: Due to the nature of work assignments, incumbents must be able to perform detailed work on multiple, concurrent tasks, with frequent interruptions and under time constraint. The essential duties of this classification may require the ability to regularly stand, walk, push, pull, finger, talk, see, hear and use repetitive motion; frequently feel, grasp, finger and see; frequently talk and hear; and occasionally balance, stoop, crouch, stand, pull, grasp, and feel. The working conditions may include environmental hazards. In terms of the physical strength to perform the essential duties, this classification is considered to be heavy work, exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
