LIFEGUARD/ SWIM INSTRUCTOR
Overview
The City of Riverbank Parks and Recreation Department is seeking a highly skilled and responsible individual to join our team as a Lifeguard/Swim Instructor. The ideal candidate will be passionate about water safety, possess strong swimming and lifesaving skills, and have the ability to instruct and guide individuals of all ages in swimming techniques. This dual role requires a commitment to maintaining a safe aquatic environment as a lifeguard and facilitating engaging swim lessons as an instructor.
Essential Functions
Lifeguard Duties:
- Supervise and ensure the safety of all pool users.
- Enforce pool rules and regulations to maintain a secure swimming environment.
- Respond promptly to emergencies, providing first aid and CPR as needed.
- Regularly inspect and maintain safety equipment.
- Maintain constant surveillance of the pool area.
- Prepare reports and records
Swim Instructor Duties:
- Conduct swim lessons for individuals and groups of various skill levels.
- Evaluate participants' swimming abilities and provide constructive feedback.
- Develop and implement lesson plans that focus on water safety and proper swimming techniques.
- Adapt teaching methods to accommodate diverse learning styles.
- Foster a positive and encouraging learning environment.
Customer Service:
- Interact with pool patrons in a friendly and professional manner.
- Address inquiries and concerns regarding swim lessons and pool safety.
- Provide information on swim programs and schedules.
Qualifications
The following are minimal qualifications necessary for the position:
- Strong swimming skills and knowledge of various swimming strokes.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work well independently and as part of a team.
- Physical fitness and endurance for lifeguard responsibilities.
- Must be 16 years or older.
Licenses and Certificates
The following must be obtained by date of hire:
- American Red Cross Lifeguard Certificate
- American Red Cross C.P.R for the Professional Rescuer Certificate
- American Red Cross First Aid Certificate
- American Red Cross Title 22 Certificate
Compensation
$16.50 per hour
Additional Requirements
Appointment to the position is contingent upon the candidate providing proof of eligibility to work in the United States and passing a pre-employment physical examination which includes a drug screening, and passing a fingerprint check and may include a thorough check of their employment history.
Physical, Mental, and Environmental Working Conditions
Position requires sitting, standing, walking, reaching, twisting, turning, kneeling, bending, stooping, squatting, grasping, and making repetitive hand movement in the performance of daily duties. The position also requires both near and far vision when reading correspondence, statistical data and using a computer. The need to lift, drag and push files, paper and equipment weighing 25 pounds or more is also required. The incumbent may be exposed to cleaning chemicals, or pool chemicals. Additionally, the incumbent in this outdoor position works in all weather conditions, including wet, hot and cold and is required to swim.
