The City of Roanoke Fire-EMS, an Internationally Accredited and ISO Class 1 Fire-EMS Department, is seeking its next generation of Firefighter/EMTs to provide emergency and non-emergency fire suppression and Emergency Medical Service (EMS) from 11 strategically located stations. The department responds to over 35,000 emergency incidents within the City’s 43 square miles annually and is a leader in the fire and EMS industry. Roanoke Fire-EMS is comprised of over 270 full time personnel and is a full service organization providing fire suppression, EMS, local and regional technical rescue, local and regional swift water rescue, local and regional hazmat and community risk reduction programs for the City of Roanoke.

Fire EMS Public Safety PlanSUMMARY
Performs technical work providing fire suppression and human health emergency medical services, normally assigned to a 24-hour shift; Duties are performed under emergency conditions and frequently involve considerable personal hazard.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Assists in maintaining equipment inventory on emergency vehicles
Maintains vehicles in a clean and working order
Performs daily routine station and grounds cleaning and assigned maintenance as directed
Responds to fire and emergency medical services (EMS) calls and performs related emergency work as required
Drives and operates fire and EMS apparatus on non-emergency and emergency incidents
Provides patient care and administers basic life support techniques and treatment within approved scope of practice
Prepares a variety of reports and complete records as required
Assists in activities not directly related to emergencies (i.e. fire inspections, fire hydrant maintenance, equipment testing and public standby situations)
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Possession of a valid appropriate drivers license issued by the Commonwealth of Virginia. Must possess or obtain EMT certification within twelve (12) month probationary period. Must possess and maintain required certifications appropriate to duty assignment within the Fire/EMS department.
