The City of Roanoke is looking for a dedicated Maintenance Technician II to join our Parks & Recreation team! Key Responsibilities:
- Perform skilled maintenance and repair work on parks, fields, and equipment, including mowing, aeration, mulching, grading, seeding, and sodding.
- Conduct playground inspections and repair related equipment to ensure safety standards are met.
- Operate motorized equipment such as forklifts, skid steers, and backhoes, and handle various power tools like saws, drills, and pressure washers.
- Support special events by setting up and breaking down stages and equipment, assisting with logistics, and handling related tasks.
- Participate in the City of Roanoke’s snow removal program and assist with emergency responses as needed, including some nights and weekends.
- Load and unload materials such as soil, mulch, and gravel for park projects.
- Maintain records, perform word processing tasks, and prepare reports using basic office equipment.
- High school diploma or GED required; 1-3 years of related experience in facility or equipment maintenance, or a combination of education and experience.
- Ability to obtain a Class A, B, or C Commercial Driver’s License and Playground Inspection Certification (after hire).
- Hands-on experience with park and ground maintenance, including carpentry, concrete, and masonry work.
- Proficient with the use of power tools, hand tools, and maintenance equipment.
- Ability to perform physical labor in varying weather conditions.
- Possession of a valid Virginia driver’s license is required.
- Must be able to obtain a Class B Commercial Learner’s Permit and full CDL License within 12 months, as well as a Registered Technician spraying license within the same timeframe.
