The City of Roanoke is seeking a Tree Trimmer to perform skilled work in the care and pruning of trees. The successful candidate will climb trees using rope and saddle, tree spikes, and ladders; perform tree pruning in accordance with ISA standards for purposes of public safety, environmental enhancement, and aesthetics; remove trees by felling using directional control or by topping and piecing down; plant and transplant trees; apply pesticides to trees for the purposes of insect or disease control as well as control of unwanted vegetation; and apply fertilizer to shade and ornamental trees. High school diploma or general education degree (GED); three years' recent experience working as a trimmer and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Other duties may be assigned.Climbs trees using rope and saddle, tree spikes, and laddersPerforms tree pruning in accordance with ISA standards for purposes of public safety, environmental enhancement, and aestheticsRemoves trees by felling using directional control or by topping and piecing downPlants and transplants trees Applies pesticides to trees for the purposes of insect or disease control as well as control of unwanted vegetationApplies fertilizer to shade and ornamental treesPerforms cabling, bracing, bark tracing, and other tree surgery proceduresOperates an aerial lift deviceUses and maintains in good repair all power and hand tools including: chainsaws, handsaws, ropes, saddles, axes, etc.Operates a backhoe/tractorOperates a brush chipperOperates a stump grinder/cutterOperates a telescopic crane truckPerforms snow removal as neededMay serve as lead worker in absence of supervisorSUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIESThis job has no supervisory responsibilities.
