What are the responsibilities and job description for the Outdoor Interpreter (Part - Time) position at City of Rochester Hills?
This is a part-time position.The following duties are normal for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each duty satisfactorily.
- Assists with the planning and implementing of outdoor engagement and environmental programs, exhibits and activities for school groups, scouting organizations, and patrons.
- Designs, delivers, and presents special events, day camps, and other educational programs.
- Provides training and instruction to volunteer staff.
- Prepares and distributes marketing materials to local press, and the community.
- Assists the Naturalist with wildlife response support.
- Assists the Naturalist with the development of the outdoor engagement plan.
- Provides customer service to internal and external customers; addresses and resolves customer questions as able and refers complex inquiries, requests, or complaints to appropriate staff; conducts research for patrons as needed.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Associates degree in Environmental Science, Parks and Recreation, Natural Resources, Biology or a closely related field or two (2) years of related college course work AND two (2) years related work experience including developing educational programs, conducting interpretive tours and programs, or event coordination.
- Intermediate proficiency with office computers and related applications.
- State of Michigan drivers license with no more than four (4) points currently on record.
- Experience with Eco-tourism/Adventure programming.

- This work requires the occasional exertion of up to 50 pounds of force; work regularly requires sitting, frequently requires standing, speaking or hearing, using hands to finger, handle or feel and repetitive motions and occasionally requires walking, stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling and reaching with hands and arms.
- Work has standard vision requirements.
- Vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word.
- Hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels.
- Work requires preparing and analyzing written or computer data and observing general surroundings and activities.
- Work is preformed indoors in an office setting and outdoors in all types of weather.
Performance Test: To evaluate skill with Excel and Word (70% passing).
Oral Evaluation of Qualifications: To evaluate technical knowledge, decision-making/problem solving skills, employment history, communication skills, and other factors related to successful performance in this position.
