The Public Works Department, as a division of the City of Rochester, Minnesota, is responsible for planning, programming, design, constructing, and maintaining public works facilities. This includes street infrastructure, street lighting, traffic control, sanitary and storm water, water main, and waste water treatment facilities, as well as on-street and off-street parking, and coordination of mass transit modes.
Pay Scale:
$16.81 to $19.96 per hour depending on education / experience.
Work Schedule:
Normal work hours are Monday through Friday from 7:00am to 3:30p.m.
Nature of Work
The individuals that are chosen for these positions will be assisting maintenance staff completing a variety of tasks the sewer collection crew and WRP crew undertake on a yearly basis. These positions will assist the maintenance crews on the day to day preventative maintenance and construction responsibilities and duties listed below.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Duties will vary with position assignment.
Assigned duties will primarily include assisting the City sewer crews with the following:
- Assist the sewer collection crews to clean and repair sanitary and storm infrastructure; i.e. jetting, rodding, reconstructing pipes, reconstructing cleaning manholes, catch basins, storm water structures
- Perform routine preventative maintenance and/or minor repairs to equipment (i.e. grease, oil, etc.)
- Perform other related duties as assigned
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Due to the hazardous work/use of equipment in this position, qualified candidates must be at least 18 years of age.
Education and Experience
High School diploma or equivalent (GED)
Licenses and/or Certifications
Valid driver's license
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Ability to: perform strenuous physical labor in an outdoor environment able to lift objects weighing 100 lbs; establish and maintain effective working relationships; work in a dirty, dusty environment; work outdoors while it is raining slightly; and effectively carry out written and oral instructions.
