A Police Summer Internship is a paid position tailored to assist Law Enforcement Students in fulfilling their collegiate internship requirements. Internship schedules are flexible and may include occasional weekends.

Summer Internships include a wide variety of law enforcement exposure and experience relevant to the law enforcement career. Interns will collaborate with teams throughout the Rochester Police Department to gain a wide knowledge of Department operations.
Duties And Responsibilities
The described activities below are representative of the scope of work performed within this internship classification. Individual experiences will vary based on daily call volume and caseloads.
Education and Experience
A High School diploma or the equivalent (GED) and be at least 18 years old
Be enrolled in a 2 or 4 year Law Enforcement or Criminal Justice AAS or BA/BS program
Prior to being offered an internship, individuals must pass a background investigation.
Desirable Qualifications
Interest in a career with the Rochester Police Department

Knowledge of: law enforcement practice and procedure
Skill in: working respectfully, courteously, and collaboratively with law enforcement staff and citizens of the community.
Ability to: maintain focus while working with multiple interruptions; communicate well in written and verbal formats; understand and follow verbal and written instructions; be tolerant of duties involving routine and repetitive tasks; complete accurate work products independently when requested.
PHYSICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL CRITERIA
In compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act, the following represents the physical and environmental demands for this position. The employee must be able to perform the essential functions with or without accommodation.
This position requires the majority of the work day spent working outdoors, either standing or walking. There may be times this position requires sitting for extended periods of time.
Some lifting and carrying may be required with weights of objects ranging from ten (10) to (50) pounds.
Climbing or walking on uneven terrain is often required along with movements such as bending, twisting, and kneeling.
