General Description
The incumbent in this position is responsible for the daily care, feeding, and enrichment of animals, and assisting with customer service in the Rochester Animal Services Shelter. Direct supervision is received from higher level Animal Services personnel. Related duties are performed as required.
CITY RESIDENCY IS REQUIRED AT TIME OF APPLICATION
Typical Work Activities
- Cleans and disinfects kennels, cages, runs, cat room, dishes, and floors in the kennel area;
- Feeds animals daily, performs routine water checks and ensures each cage has a required identification documentation;
- Examines animals for health and safety issues and notifies a supervisor;
- Assists with euthanization of animals, as needed;
- Performs customer service activities including but not limited to, adoption counseling, escorting customers to the kennel area and answering questions;
- Monitors the animal visitation room;
- Launders animal supplies and bedding; Administers medications and vaccines;
- Performs census of impounded animals when so instructed;
- Completes simple forms both paper and electronic; Works within records management system;
- Attends training;
- Disposes of garbage daily;
- Observes all safety rules and regulations;
- Maintains an attitude that is conducive to a good relationships with other personnel and customers and also promotes trust;
- Maintains interior and exterior of facility for safety of employees and public as requested by supervisory personnel;
- Performs shelter enrichment activities including participating with canine playgroup sessions.
Minimum Qualifications
High School Diploma or Equivalent; PLUS:
Three (3) months of full-time experience (full-time or its part-time equivalent) working at an animal shelter, animal hospital, animal boarding facility, or other similar environment involving the care and handling of animals.
NOTE:
Equivalent verifiable volunteer experience will be accepted in lieu of paid experience if a start date, end date, and hours worked per week are included.
