General Description
This is a Competitive Class position. The individual selected to fill this vacancy will be given a provisional appointment and will be required to participate in the next Civil Service Examination for this title.
A qualified applicant may be provisionally appointed and serve in the position until a Civil Service Examination is administered and an appropriate eligible list can be established to make a permanent appointment in accordance with the Civil Service Rule of Three. Typical Work Activities
- Provides quality in-person, telephone, and e-mail client services;
- Shares information with clients on program and services, pet care, and local animal-related ordinances;
- Conducts animal adoption counseling with an understanding of behavior assessments, medical history, and other materials that need to be covered with clients;
- Completes animal adoptions ensuring that all transaction paperwork and computer records are complete and accurate;
- Collects cash, checks, and credit card payments for shelter services, donations, and dog licensing;
- Operates a cash register, point-of-sale, or other records and financial management systems;
- Reconciles payments and daily reports by category and balances daily reports;
- Processes stray and relinquished animals, enters data in records management system, and completes related paperwork;
- Ensures that lost animal reports and opening/closing checklists are completed accurately;
- Processes and issues dog licenses for adopting, redeeming, and clinic clientele;
- Performs general office duties including but not limited to photocopying, scanning, faxing, filing, inventory, and ordering supplies;
- Solicits donations from clients, records donations in records management system, and assists with acknowledgements.
Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma or Equivalent, PLUS
- Three (3) years of general customer service and clerical experience which involved typing documents, data entry, filing, and public contact work, AND
- Six (6) months experience working at an animal shelter, animal hospital, animal boarding facility, or similar animal-related organization.
NOTE:
- The work experience (full-time or its part-time equivalent) in sections 1. and 2. may have been acquired concurrently or separately.
- Equivalent verifiable volunteer experience will be accepted in lieu of paid experience for Section 2. only if a start date, end date, and hours worked per week are included.
