General Description
SATURDAY, APRIL 26, 2025.**
Employees perform laborer duties and attend training classes. Training includes the operation of refuse/recycling collection trucks and the duties of the Environmental Services Operator I (ESO I) title. Trainees must complete the training program and obtain a New York State Class B Commercial Driver’s License, without airbrake restriction, within six months of hire. Successful candidates transition to the title of Environmental Services Operator I. Employees are under the direction of higher ranking staff. Related work is performed as required.
Typical Work Activities
- Performs manual labor in the collection of refuse and recyclables;
- Attends mandatory training programs for certification as an ESO I;
- Performs laborer duties outside of the Solid Waste Management Division (SWMD) when the need exists;
- Follows all applicable work practices and safety rules.
Minimum Qualifications
- Preference will be given to candidates who already possess a Class B New York State Commercial Driver's License.
SPECIAL TRAINING REQUIREMENT:
- Employees selected for this position will be required to obtain within six (6) months a valid New York State Class B Commercial Driver’s License, without airbrake restriction, and to pass a Certified Training course offered by the City in order to be promoted to the position of ESO I.
- Employees failing to successfully complete the training program or to obtain a Class B License within six (6) months will be terminated from the position of ESO Trainee.
