The work below is representative of the scope of work performed within this job classification. Individual job duties will vary based on work assignment.Review building plans and specifications in both paper and electronic form for minor structural requirements to verify code compliance; assure that plans contain clear and concise information necessary for a complete plan review.Review building plans and specifications in both paper and electronic form for architectural requirements and code compliance as it relates to specific design criteria including life safety, energy, accessibility and fire regulations.Interface with architects, engineers, contractors and/or designers to communicate issues with plan design data, code interpretation and/or defects or inadequacies found in minor structural and nonstructural specifications; advise on corrections and/or solutions to identified issues.Coordinate plan review process with other departmental staff and/or related agencies from initial to final stages.Perform inspections of new and existing buildings and field reviews during construction by comparing actual construction to approved plans.Perform minor special investigations involving unusual application of the building codes, new design concepts and/or alternative methods or materials for code compliance.Provide code consultation and respond to inquiries from City/departmental employees, architects, engineers, contractors, designers and/or other customers regarding Construction Codes and department policies and procedures.Serve as subject matter architectural expert for departmental staff regarding technical inspections and compliance.Prepare and maintain records of plan reviews, and enter permit data into computerized tracking system.Perform other duties as assigned or necessary.*ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
