Description
Under direct supervision, works with youth of all ages in a day camp environment, requires some previous supervisory experience in a day camp environment or other child care related activities; ability to learn basic first aid techniques
Examples of Duties
- Assists in directing a group of children in a manner that promotes safe behaviors and improves the quality of the children's interaction with one another.
- Participates in all activities with their groups, making camp fun for their campers, teaching skills, providing encouragement and support, etc.
- Serves as a role model to young children by demonstrating high standards of personal conduct.
- Guides youth staff assigned to group. Responsible for campers' safety on bus, on a trip, or at any activity. Reports any accident to proper camp personnel.
- Is attentive to and follows administrative notices defining camp procedures and routines.
Typical Qualifications
Requires knowledge, skill and mental development equivalent two (2) years of college
Supplemental Information
All Camp Counselors must attend the pre-camp staff training the week prior to camp. Training will consist of planning and playing games, safety training, first aid and CPR training for certification or recertification and leadership skills.
Hours are 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.
