What are the responsibilities and job description for the Adventure Camp Counselor position at City of Rock Island?
Under the general supervision of the Community Recreation Manager, this employee coordinates activities and performs a variety of recreational tasks in support of assigned area of within the Rock Island Park and Recreation Department System. Camp Starts on June 9th, training will be provided at the end of May. Ability to express maturity in thought, work habits and responsibility;
Ability to work with other people and to work with youth of all ages and needs;
Responsibility for a specific group of children and the Counselor will stay and direct these children all day;
Prepare weekly and daily schedules of activities and other required paperwork;
Organize and conduct activities through games, aquatics, nature, crafts, sports and camping skills to participants in an outdoor based program;
Encourage individuals to participate in group activities and to reach their needs through these activities;
Plans and organizes a total day camp program for the individual participant and for the unit, keeping in mind the needs of each individual camper;
Provide a safe environment for campers;
Acts as a role model for young children.
Performs related duties as assignedPrefer a high school graduate enrolled in a college/university with previous work in a day camp setting or a standing high school senior with previous experience in related work or leader in training experience. Candidate may be placed in any of the following camps: Day Trippers School Break Camp, Adventure Camp, or various sports and specialty camp.The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Specific vision abilities required by the position include close vision, distance vision, the ability to adjust focus, and the ability to read various sizes of print. While performing the duties of the job, the employee is regularly required to use hands and fingers to handle, feel, or operate objects, tools, or controls and reach with hands and arms. The employee frequently is required to stand and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to lift up to 20 pounds regularly and up to 50 pounds occasionally; walk; sit; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and smell.
