Under direct supervision performs unskilled to semi-skilled work pertaining to the maintenance of Parks throughout the City. The Seasonal Work period is expected to begin in March and end mid-to-late October. Employees will be hired on the basis of experience, abilities, availability, an in person interview, and their ability to fulfill the work period requirement.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
Perform a variety of tasks using various hand and power tools in the establishment and maintenance of grounds, landscape plantings and their confinements. May operate more complex equipment with the proper training or under supervision. Plant, maintain, rehabilitate, and construct landscape areas and features throughout park and municipal landscapes.Use push, self-propelled and riding mowers, string trimmers, and backpack blowers to maintain grounds. Collect and remove litter and trash from parks; clean paths, planting beds, fountains, and lots. Prepare facilities before special events and maintain throughout the event.Paint equipment and structures as needed.Drive pickup trucks, motorized carts, riding mowers, tractors, field groomers and small dump trucks. Repair or replace stone, brick, timber, or other edgings and retaining walls. Install new plantings and remove old ones; use augers, post-hole diggers, shovels and rakes, tractors.Assist with clearing storm damage and cleaning flooded areas. Be personable and responsive with the public.Other duties as assigned.
SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION
This work requires the ability to tolerate extremes of weather and conditions commonly found working in the out of doors. The successful applicant will perform frequent standing, walking, climbing, bending, stooping, reaching, pulling, pushing, and squatting. Lifting of up to 50 pounds repeatedly may be required. Normal hearing, the ability to speak, and depth perception is required.
