JOB
This is seasonal work involving the concession operation of Whitewater Junction water facility for the Rock Island Park & Recreation Department and/or golf courses.Work involves responsibility for food and beverage serving in a fast paced work environment. The workers greet customers, explains the menu, takes food and drink orders, prepares food for consumption, serves food and beverages, operates a cash register which includes accepting payment and returning accurate change. Work also involves answering questions and keeping tables and work area clean and dining areas clean for new patrons.Work is performed under the direction of the RIFAC Aquatics and Fitness Manager, golf course supervisor, or their designee and is reviewed on the basis of observation and adherence to established policies and procedures. Work hours required to perform duties satisfactorily include evenings and weekends and will vary due to events at the facility. For Whitewater Junction swimming pool: This is seasonal, hourly work. The pool is open from Memorial Day weekend (May) through Labor Day Weekend (September). Training hours before may be required. New hires under 18 will start at $14 per hour, while individuals 18 and over will start at $15 per hour.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
Responsible for preparing food within guidelines of the food and sanitation permit.Responsible for providing outstanding customer service and timely presentation of food and beverage products to customers.Must be friendly and enjoy talking with customers.Ability to accurately take and fill customer orders.Ability to operate a cash register, accurately count money and return proper change.Clean tables by removing dirty plates, wiping table surfaces and disposing of garbage.Emptying of garbage containers.Keep serving areas stocked with necessary supplies.Interpersonal skills that require working as part of a team helping coworkers improve workflow and customer service.Complete records and reports as required by the department.Participate in regular in-service training sessions. Performs related duties as assigned.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is subject to working long hours on days of facility events, is subject to prolonged standing, and is frequently required to walk, kneel, bend, sit, climb stairs, and crouch. The employee is required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls. The employee is required to be able to lift up to 20 pounds regularly and up to 50 pounds occasionally.
Specific vision abilities required by the position include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus.
