DESCRIPTION OF WORK

DEFINITION: This position is responsible for the analysis of crime and operational data.
REPORTS TO: The Police Sergeant assigns work in terms of very general instructions.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
- Data Collection: Review of all reports assigned, to include narratives and supplements.Review consists of ensuring data quality and accuracy. Using the review to build out information for future analysis.
- Responsible for the systematic examination of a wide variety of reports (source documents), that include, but are not limited to, incident reports, arrest reports, field interviews, pawn data, arrest records, CAD information, public source documents (e.g., internet, newspapers, tax records, GIS) and other agency information.
- Collect, analyze,organize and disseminatecrime reports and operational data.
- Performs crime analysis; prepares reports, charts, graphs, and maps related to crime patterns and trends; completes related administrative analysis, including cost/effectiveness analysis, program evaluation, and long range forecasting; completes related strategic analysis including exception reporting, crime trend identification and forecasting, and situational analysis; completes related tactical analysis, including crime series pattern detection, crime suspect correlation, target/suspect profiles, and crime potential forecasting.
- Performs operational analysis; prepares reports, charts, graphs, and maps on manpower allocation and manpower deployment; completes related operational analysis.
- Performs research analysis; prepares crime information for internal and external customers in the form of reports, charts, mapsand graphs; processes requests for crime statistics and crime information; provides timely and accurate crime statistics and crime information to customers.
- Performs quality control on reports submitted by line level divisions; reviews report for completeness and accuracy; notify problems to record personnel of the need for corrective actions.
- Capable of generating maps related to crime and other operational data with the use of a GIS type platform.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree in related field.
- One (1) or more years of experience in a related field.
Special Qualifications:
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIREMENTS
- Knowledge of crime and operational analysis standards.
- Knowledge of I-based reporting.
- Knowledge of job-related software applications such as Microsoft Excel, Power Point, Power-BI, GIS mapping, Crystal Reports.
- Skill in the analysis of crime, crime trends, and operational data.
- Skill in analyzing problems and identifying solutions.
- Skill in preparing clear and accurate reports.
- Skill in establishing cooperative and productive working relationships.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
- The work is typically performed while sitting at a desk or table. The employee occasionally lifts light objects.
- The work is sedentary work which requires exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body.Additionally, the following physical abilities are required:

The work is typically performed in an office but may require other venues from time to time.
