Naturalists also contribute to other projects that support HANC's educational priorities. - Teach environmental education programs and lead activities using HANC curriculum. These programs include field trips, camps, birthday parties, drop-in visitation, and public events.
- Foster a safe, fun, and quality learning atmosphere for people of all ages, backgrounds, and abilities
- Conduct program preparations, communications, set-up and take-down of materials. Assist in proper care and maintenance of animals, exhibits, materials and grounds
- Interact with public visitors, program participants, and parents – providing accurate information and answering questions
- Support HANC operations, projects, special events, and other tasks as assigned
- Continually shows respect for diverse perspectives, backgrounds, and interests. Exhibits sensitivity to the needs of diverse audiences in all duties performed on behalf of the City to support Roseville in building and sustaining an inclusive and equitable working environment and community.
- Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
- High School Graduate or Graduate Equivalency Degree (GED) and at least one year of experience or related training. Bachelor’s degree in a related area preferred.
- Excellent human relation and communication skills
- Experience with and knowledge of working cross culturally and with diverse youth preferred. Ideal candidate will have familiarity with environmental education topics, experience teaching children, experience teaching at an outdoor education facility, and experience with summer camps and school groups.
- Ability to work flexible hours and in adverse weather and environmental conditions.
Work is performed largely outdoors, with some time in a classroom or office environment. There is exposure to a multitude of elements including heat, cold, rain, snow, and wind. Occasionally the job may involve working with challenging behaviors, particularly from youth. The position requires some weekend and occasional evening work.
Limited lifting of 20 pounds or less is required less than 15% of the time.
Naturalist is responsible for varied technical, complex, and confidential functions, many of which have deadlines and require significant attention to detail. Approximately 70-90% of the time, work is performed at the highest level of detail under the pressure of deadlines.

Activities that occur occasionally (up to 2 hours/shift): feeling and eye/hand/foot coordination, repetitive motions, carrying, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, handling, and grasping, stooping
Activities that occur rarely (do not exist as regular part of job): lifting, pushing, pulling, climbing, balancing.
