Description
Under general supervision, this position leads staff involved in the maintenance of the city's water distribution / wastewater collection / stormwater operations and related facilities by overseeing line installation and equipment operations; maintains public relations.
Posted pay range is the starting salary. Pay rate offered is based on experience.
Examples of Duties
- Maintains water distribution / wastewater collection / stormwater operations by repairing main lines, customer lines, and various types of wastewater access ports; cleans collection system lines; performs lift station maintenance; completes work within schedule; performs duties of Utility Services Worker – Senior as needed.
- Trains employees on licensing, safety procedures, and reading utility maps; maintains accurate recordkeeping and employee timekeeping.
- Trains, supervises, and monitors functions and tasks of employees, including proper work methods and procedures.
- Ensures all work orders and reports are submitted in timely manner, including by subordinates; keeps video inspection data logs current; reads and interprets diagrams, and updates them as needed.
- Enforces proper use of all safety equipment; inspects and monitors work-related conditions in compliance with established operating and safety procedures; maintains a good working relationship with coworkers and other department staff.
- Ensures equipment is maintained, including preparing write-ups for repair; ensures equipment is routinely inspected; directs and ensures crew maintenance of truck supply inventory; ensures compliance with preventive maintenance schedule.
- Maintains public relations in educating customers about the collection system; responds to and resolves customer concerns; notifies customers of project-related issues and schedule of work in neighborhoods; maintains professional appearance of personnel and equipment.
Experience and Training
- Graduation from high school or GED equivalent is required.
- Three (3) or more years of experience in utility maintenance or in a similar position is required; lead or supervisory experience is preferred.
Certificates and Licenses Required
Class A Commercial Driver License (CDL) with tanker endorsement
Water Distribution / Wastewater Collections –
Water Class C Distribution license issued by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ)
Wastewater Collection Class II issued by the TCEQ
Stormwater Operations –
Water Class D license issued by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ)
Completion of the following courses provided by Texas A&M Engineering Extension Service (TEEX): Work Zone Traffic Control, Flaggers in Work Zones, Introduction to Backhoe Operation, and Skid Steer Operator
This position may require you to have or acquire a commercial driver's license (CDL). Federal law requires all CDL holders register with the USDOT Clearinghouse before operating a commercial vehicle. You will be required to enroll in the clearinghouse and sign a consent form allowing the City to run your name through the clearinghouse as a condition of employment.
