Under general supervision, the Signs & Markings Technician - Senior manages the sign replacement program, manages and maintains sign inventory, oversees and provides guidance to less experienced staff, and assists in training signs and marking crew members. Also performs a variety of tasks in the maintenance and installation of traffic signs; painting of pavement markings and striping; application of preformed pavement markings; installation of raised pavement markers; and maintenance of records on materials and equipment used.
Posted range is the starting salary. Pay rate offered is based on experience.
- Serves as lead technician to signs and markings crew. Plans and organizes sign replacement schedule. Fabricates, installs, and maintains signs by using Traffic CAD software; utilizes GIS inventory management software; fabricates, installs crash worthiness bases or sign policies; replaces signs that fail the reflectometer test; installs signs to state, city, and MUTCD standards; replaces graffiti signs; repairs signs that have been knocked down; reads and interprets plans, schematics and safety data sheets.
- Installs and maintains pavement markings with a thermal or paint machine by installing preformed thermal symbols; grinds lane lines for removal or relocation purposes; stripe fire lanes and no parking lanes; maintains city facilities parking areas; installs delineators; installs raised pavement markers.
- Handles special projects by installing traffic analysis equipment by collecting and downloading data for the engineer; surveys neighborhoods; collects vehicle and pedestrian volume counts.
- Assists in the preparation, implementation, and monitoring and evaluation of work processes. Participates in all emergencies requiring the expertise and knowledge of signs and markings staff; utilizes knowledge and equipment in addressing other department needs. Monitors the safety of all workers.
- Graduation from high school or GED. Some college preferred.
- Two year of construction experience, signs & markings experience, or closely related field.
- Signs & Markings experience preferred.
- I.M.S.A. Signs and Markings Level II Certification preferred.
- Possession of a Class A commercial Texas Driver's License or the ability to obtain in 90 days.
- Possession of I.M.S.A. Work Zone Certification or equivalent or the ability to obtain in 6 months, depending on when testing is available, not to exceed 12 months.
- Possession of I.M.S.A. Signs and Markings Technician Level II Certification or ability to obtain in 6 months, depending on when testing is available, not to exceed 12 months.
