What are the responsibilities and job description for the Treatment Plant Operator - Senior (BCRUA) position at City of Round Rock?
Under limited supervision, performs complex repair, maintenance, and preventive maintenance at a water treatment plant, or water distribution systems facility. Performs in both operations and maintenance with demonstrated mastery in one discipline and demonstrated competency in the other discipline. This position will be located at the Brushy Creek Regional Water Utility (BCRUA) Water Treatment plant located in Cedar Park at 1906 Hur Industrial Blvd.
Posted range is the starting salary. Pay rate offered is based on experience.
Operates surface water treatment plants for production that meets or exceeds state and federal regulations. Utilizes the SCADA system and reporting tools to verify and optimize treatment. Connects and disconnects one ton chlorine gas containers and handles other treatment chemicals as needed. Performs lab analysis and documents results in accordance with policies.
- Makes process control decisions and assigns process control tasks under normal, temporary, and emergency operating conditions; conducts tests to determine proper chemical feed rates, calibrate field instruments, and make changes to chemical pumping rate as required.
- Ensures plant processes are always operating within regulated parameters as mandated by State, Federal, requirements; reports out-of-compliance occurrences to supervisor and superintendent.
- Performs control room duties; monitors various city facilities using the SCADA system; responds to emergencies; uses trending and reporting tools to optimize system operations.
- Leads work group and assists with the on-the-job training of Water Treatment Plant operators.
- Performs routine and non-routine maintenance on chemical feed equipment, pumps, motors, and valves. Troubleshoots equipment as necessary.
- Monitors water quality through laboratory testing and observation of monitoring equipment and the computer system. Documents and reviews test and equipment results according to policy. Adjusts treatment as needed.
High School Diploma or equivalent.
Three (3) or more years of experience in treatment plant operation or a similar position.
- Class B Surface Water Operator’s License issued by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality.
- Class C Texas Driver’s License or ability to obtain prior to employment
