Position Overview:
This position serves as support to athletics, recreation programs, special events and the parks division as needed and may receive direction from personnel within any of these divisions. Must be able to work weekdays, weekends and holidays as needed, hours of operation may vary. Performs related duties as required.
Essential Job Functions
Monitors and cleans Parks and Recreation Department facilities during scheduled programs. Provides instruction to patrons at Recreation programs. Provides excellent customer service by responding to customers' questions and needs. Assists with various recreation program duties including opening, closing and operation of programs, leagues, tournaments or special events. Ensures the safety of all spectators and participants in programs and facilities and keeps supervisor informed regarding safety related issues. Works special events as assigned. Responsible for regular attendance and reporting to work on time.
Minimum Requirements
No minimum education is required. Depending on the assignment, some knowledge of general sports rules (basketball, softball, volleyball and football) and/or ability to operate a cash register, scoreboard or computer may be required or preferred.

Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions. Ability to perform cash handling duties, accurately count money and make change. Ability to use a calculator and do basic math functions. Must be able to demonstrate excellent customer service skills. Must have good written and oral communication skills and be able to deal effectively with the public. Ability to use the computer and applicable computer programs. Ability to work outdoors as required.
Other Requirements
Must be able to work evenings, weekends and holidays depending on scheduled programs.
Certification in First Aid, CPR, Automated External Defibrillator or completion of certification within six months of employment.
Part-time employees working a schedule of less than 20 hours per week are not eligible for City benefits or participation in the Texas Municipal Retirement System (TMRS). Employees in these positions participate in a Public Agency Retirement Services (PARS) plan as an alternative to Social Security.
