Position Overview:
Under the general direction of the Community Engagement Manager, this role advances the City's communication and marketing strategies across digital platforms. Responsibilities include creating and managing content for social media, podcasts, newsletters, news briefs, websites, and other digital media. Duties involve writing, graphic design, photography, and website publishing. This position will have a regular on-camera presence, contributing to video production with a positive, brand-aligned persona. Also fosters citizen engagement and amplifies the Rowlett brand across print, video, social media, and digital channels. As part of the community engagement team, this role also supports City events as needed.
- Proactively generates campaigns for the City’s social media accounts by developing quality copy, graphics, images, and video; gathering news, information, and photos; and collecting information from multiple sources on a timely and continuous basis.
- Promotes department activities, services, and programs by determining the best way to present the message and the appropriate media channel(s) to use. Requires onsite or site-specific coverage of news and events.
- Provides marketing support to City departments in the promotion of campaigns, services, and programs.
- Serves as the owner and managing editor for the weekly City e-newsletter and other regularly recurring content series on social media or otherwise.
- Research topics and write scripts for various video projects and stay on trend with social media.
- Serves on-camera as the face of the City in regularly scheduled news series’ and special video projects. Assists in the development of the overall City social media strategy by implementing best practices, researching audience preferences, and identifying new methods to share social content and other emerging social media channels.
- Evaluates and reports on success of City social media by gathering and analyzing data and providing feedback from social media trends and research.
- Supports monitoring and response development for citizen inquiries and comments on social media channels and City email.
- Assists with the City’s public website management through regular updates and content creation including copy and graphics.
- Attends public and/or internal meetings to capture and record images and video of presentations and other events, including sometimes after hours and on weekends .
- Assists with special events, projects and a wide range of communication tasks as needed or assigned.
- Performs other duties as assigned. Regular, reliable, and non-disruptive attendance is an essential function of this position, as is the ability to create and maintain professional, harmonious working relationships with others.
Creative marketing and engagement professional with strong communication, copywriting, and presentation skills, including on-camera presence. Proficient in public relations, branding, graphic design, and industry software (Adobe Creative Suite, Canva). Skilled in project management, social media, marketing automation, and basic video production. Adept at program development, municipal operations, and data analysis. Strong organizational abilities with experience in managing multiple tasks and collaborating with diverse stakeholders.Valid driver's license required. Must have and maintain a good driving record in accordance with the driving standards as established by the City of Rowlett. Must report all traffic citations to his/her departmental Director or his/her designee within two working days of receipt.
