Monday through Friday 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Some weekend and evening hours are required. May have to work on holidays.

Position summary

Incumbent performs a variety of tasks in the maintenance and operation of the Park department’s buildings, grounds, and open spaces. The incumbent is directly involved in providing an unskilled and semi-skilled service in landscaping, repairing of facilities and performing general cleaning tasks.

Primary Job Functions

  • The incumbent is responsible for performing landscaping work such as mowing/maintaining park and open space areas, planting lawn, trees, shrubs and flowers.
  • The incumbent is responsible for seeding, fertilizing, watering, pest and weed control of parks and open spaces.
  • The incumbent is responsible for maintaining restroom facilities cleanliness and to make sure they are stocked with paper towels and toilet paper.
  • The incumbent is responsible for the collection of and disposing of solid waste from buildings and grounds, including picking up litter.
  • The incumbent performs custodial work as required. This includes locking and unlocking facilities.
  • The incumbent may be required to perform maintenance on all parks department equipment. I.e. oil changes, blade repair/replace, small engine repair, and other automotive repairs as needed.
  • The incumbent is responsible for the maintenance of the swimming pool
  • The incumbent is responsible for maintaining playground equipment through minor maintenance and yearly painting.

Secondary Job Functions

  • The incumbent is responsible for setting up and taking down equipment for special programs
  • The incumbent assist in setting up decorations for holiday displays
  • The incumbent is responsible for clearing snow off walks and drives in the park and additional assigned areas
  • The incumbent may have to assist in new construction including clearing, grading, drainage and foundation work
  • The incumbent is responsible for performing other job related functions as required.

Skills and abilities

  • The incumbent must have a basic knowledge of equipment and facility maintenance to include cleaning, preventative maintenance and repair, and the ability to apply this knowledge.
  • The incumbent must have specialized knowledge of work methods used and the ability to relate this knowledge to others. This includes the proper safety procedures to use in specific maintenance work.
  • The incumbent must have a basic knowledge and the ability to apply general maintenance practices.
  • The incumbent must have the ability to be certified in CPR and first aid.
  • The incumbent must be able to gain a working knowledge of department policies, procedures and standards and the ability to support and enforce them.
  • The incumbent must have the ability to communicate effectively, both in writing and verbally to work with personnel.

Reporting Responsibility

  • The incumbent reports to the Director of the parks department

Work Environment

  • The incumbent is required to work inside and outside during winter months.
  • The incumbent is required to work outside mainly during spring, summer and fall which may expose him/her to loud noises, vibrations and extreme weather conditions.
  • This position is considered as heavy and may require the incumbent to be in a constant state of motions through bending and lifting heavy equipment

Safety Requirements

  • The incumbent is required to wear gloves, safety toe shoes, safety glasses and rubber gloves per job duties.
  • The incumbent is required to work in a manner which is consistent with standard OSHA practices

Pay: $14.00 - $16.00 per hour
