What are the responsibilities and job description for the Water or Wastewater Operator position at City of Rushville?
Job Summary:
The employee is part of the team that ensures that the water quality produced from the Rushville Utilities is safe to consume, with no noticeable odors and clean in appearance. The position of Water Operator assists in the operation and maintenance of the distribution system, treatment plant and wells for the City of Rushville. Must possess outstanding communication skills, a problem-solver mentality and self-motivator who can work effectively and efficiently without supervision as well working successfully with other team members.
Primary Job Duties:
· The employee is responsible for analyzing samples within the plant daily.
· The employee is responsible for logging the sample results on the appropriate bench sheet or Computer spreadsheet.
· The employee is responsible for backwashing the sand filters.
· The employee is responsible for making sure the chemicals (Permanganate, Chlorine, Fluoride) are replenished when needed.
· The employee must work holidays, weekends, overtime when scheduled.
· The employee must be on call when scheduled (One week out of every four).
· The employee must perform work as directed by Foreman and Utility Manager that meets all regulations.
Secondary Job Duties:
- The employee is required to flush fire hydrants 2 times per year.
- The employee is responsible for repairing water/sewer main breaks when needed.
- The employee is responsible for tapping water mains/sewer mains, installing service lines, setting meter boxes and meter settings.
- The employee is responsible for painting and repairing fire hydrants when needed.
- The employee cross train at the wastewater treatment plant to ensure that if there is a need for manpower, the facilities are adequately staffed.
- The employee will be scheduled on-call to respond to emergencies and assist with their repairs as needed.
- The employee is responsible to properly complete preventative maintenance and work orders that are assigned in a timely manner.
Equipment Knowledge:
- The employee must have the ability to use hand tools.
- The employee must have the ability to obtain a CDL license within 90 days of employment. This will allow the employee to operate the Vac Truck/Dump Truck.
- The employee must learn how to operate a backhoe/mini excavator.
- The employee must learn how to locate water lines.
- The employee must learn how to operate the GPS device.
Safety:
- The employee must follow all Rushville Utilities safety rules and regulations.
- The employee must have knowledge of safety equipment. This will ensure the safety of himself, as well as his/her fellow employees.
- The employee will follow all OSHA requirements.
- The employee will be required to wear appropriate proper protective equipment (PPE) when needed.
Education Requirements:
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Subject to background check driving record and pass a drug test.
- Knowledge of database, spreadsheet and word processing software.
- Certification is preferred. A Class WT 3 & DSM Certification is highly desirable.
Physical/Work Environment:
- The employee must be able to lift objects up to 50 pounds, climb ladders and differentiate colors.
- The employee is expected to work in extreme weather conditions, both hot and cold, work outside, and be exposed to loud noises.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $17.51 - $22.60 per hour
