RECREATION LEADER I
GENERAL DESCRIPTION
Under close supervision of the Recreation Facility Manager, or designee. Performs varied routine
duties in assisting with recreation activities and/or a facility in the Recreation Division of the Leisure
Services Department. Work is performed with some independence. Work is reviewed through
conferences and results obtained.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
May supervise a group of participants and activities.
Assists in instruction of various leisure activities.
Opens and secures facilities for programs/events/rentals. Enforces rules and regulations of proper
facility use; maintains orderliness of recreational areas.
Issues equipment; collects fees and memberships; maintains attendance records, if required; ensures
the proper care and use of equipment.
Assists contractual instructors in setting up and maintaining required equipment & records.
Prepares daily financial reports.
Responsible for developing, implementing, and evaluating leisure programs for varied ages/areas.
Provides instruction; assists in conducting recreational activities and various sport activities for citizens.
Effectively responds to inquiries regarding recreation programs and registration fees.
Responsible for oversight and control of a recreational facility during scheduled shift.
Provides excellent customer service with activity registration, fee collection, and participant inquiries,
to include front desk duties.
Performs special assignments and/or other duties as assigned.
Evening and/or weekend work will be required
Performs other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES, AND SKILLS
Knowledge of a variety of recreational activities and equipment.
Knowledge of the rules and regulations governing the play of a variety of recreational games.
Ability to responsibly oversee the use of a recreational facility.
Ability to establish and maintain effective and courteous relationships with the public.
Ability to maintain simple records.
Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions.
Demonstrated reliability and dependability.
Ability to work flexible hours.
Skill in the safe operation of a light motor vehicle.
TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE
High school diploma, or GED; supplemented by some work experience in recreational activities or
related environment; or an equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the
required knowledge, skills, and abilities. Valid Florida Driver’s License. Must have CPR within six (6)
months.
Community Center (School Age Programs): Child Care Mods required.
Youth Services – Pre-school programming experience required.
Front Desk – Computer experience required.
Athletics – Athletic programming experience required.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Acceptable eyesight (with or without correction).
Acceptable hearing (with or without hearing aid).
Ability to communicate both orally and in writing.
Reaching, bending, and lifting.
Use of fingers, use of hands.
Sitting, standing, walking, running.
Ability to access, input and retrieve information and data from a computer.
Ability to access file cabinets for filing and retrieval of data.
