What are the responsibilities and job description for the Accountant V position at City of Saint Paul?
Here's what you can expect to do:
- Supervise the maintenance of general ledgers, fund accounts, budget, and special fund accounts.
- Review new departmental projects concerning financial impact and make recommendations to department head or personnel office.
- Prepare monthly and special estimates of revenues and their impact on departmental programs; establish departmental service rates in order to maintain necessary revenue.
- Plan, organize, establish priorities and delegate the work of employees involved in accounting, payroll preparation, inventory control, assessment preparation and contract payments.
- Design, update and install new accounting systems and financial operations, make changes in accounting forms being used in the department.
- Supervise the compiling, preparing and presenting of annual financial and monthly operating reports.
- Supervise and/or prepare and analyze cost studies, financial surveys, audits and reports.
- Design, prepare and install a central system of accounts and budget administration for a large department.

Information Specific to this Position:
This position will manage the Public Works Accounting Unit located at 25 W 4th Street, Saint Paul, and is essential to its day-to-day operations. The ideal candidate will excel in grants, budgeting, auditing, GAAP, and complex fund accounting across numerous divisions that support the City of Saint Paul.

College graduation with a major or equivalent in accounting and eight years of experience in accounting, at least four years of which must have been as an Accountant III or equivalent. (No substitution for education.)

Those who pass will be placed on an eligible list and all will be notified of their status. A Hiring Manager will consider those applicants eligible for hire. You will be notified if you are invited to participate in the final selection process which may include an interview, job simulation, work sample submission, or other evaluation method.
