Performs basic and routine clerical and word processing work of moderate complexity and variety while exercising independent judgment. Performs other duties as required.
Information about the current vacancies: There are currently 3 vacancies within the Parks and Recreation Department and 1 current vacancy within the Police Department. The ideal candidate for these positions possesses excellent customer service skills and enjoys working with the public. This eligible list will fill additional vacancies as they become available throughout various City departments, including differing shifts such as days, evenings, and/or weekends.Parks and Recreation Department: The current vacancies are located in one of our Community Recreation Centers and will typically work Monday - Friday from 9:00 AM - 5:30 PM. Primary Responsibilities:
- Provides routine customer service and interactions with the public via in-person, over the phone and electronically
- Performs various data entry tasks
- Processes customer registrations via phone and in-person
- Responds to customer phone calls regarding community center operations
- Provides clerical support for recreation center programs and services across the department
Primary Responsibilities:
- Customer service: Fulfills requests for police reports, assists with gun permit applications, refers customers to appropriate officer, supervisor, and/or investigators
- Performs various data entry tasks
- Answers phones for general inquiries
- Distributes incoming US Mail to various units
- Fulfills priority requests from outside agencies
- Performs general filing, copying and scanning tasks
- Provides back up coverage to the Office Assistant III (OAIII) when OAIII is out of office
- Preferred knowledge or experience with the following: PORTALS, MyBCA, MN Data Practices Act

High school diploma or General Education Development certificate (GED) and two years of clerical/administrative experience.
Two years of post high school education can be substituted for the two years of clerical/administrative experience if the curriculum included course work related to the work performed by the Office or Executive Assistant classes.

General Information:
Open Job Posting: This posting is open to anyone who meets the position requirements.
Eligible Lists Created from Open Job Posting: You must receive a score of 75% or higher to pass the assessment and be considered for the position. Non-promotion eligible lists typically are pass/fail and promotion eligible lists are typically ranked. If the open eligible list created contains a veteran, one open list will exist. When there are no veterans remaining on the eligible list (i.e. hired, withdrawn) from an open list that also contains promotional candidates, two lists will be created: one open list and one promotion list. If two lists exist, the promotion list must be exhausted before the open list is considered.
Final Selection Process: Those who pass will be placed on an eligible list for approximately six months and all will be notified of their status. A Hiring Manager will consider those applicants eligible for hire. You will be notified if you are invited to participate in the final selection process which may include an interview, job simulation, work sample submission, or other evaluation method.
