What are the responsibilities and job description for the Public Works Technician II position at City of Saint Paul?
Here's what you can expect to do:
- Create and maintain excavation and obstruction permits, organize and coordinate permits in their assigned permitting areas of the city.
- Collect payment for permit related billings and daily cash book summary records.
- Prepare obstruction permit costs for permittees.
- Work with all permitting needs which may include special events, no parking signs, field response to complaints and customer lobby interactions and other duties as assigned.

Information Specific to this Position:
This position is within the Right of Way Division located at 899 Dale Street and is responsible for issuing permits and providing field inspection for those permits, from 7:30am to 4:00pm, Monday through Friday.

The eligible list created from this assessment will also be used to fill Public Works Technician II positions as they become available in various divisions within Public Works.

Twenty semester credits in courses acceptable toward an undergraduate degree in Civil Engineering as offered by the U of M or equivalent; and two years of experience as a PW Technician I or equivalent.
Additional years of qualifying experience may be substituted for up to ten education credits. One year of experience equals 3 1/3 education credits.

The Qualifications Rating is an assessment of your completed application, answers to the Supplemental Questionnaire, and your resume. Eligible Lists Created from Open Job Posting: You must receive a score of 75% or higher to pass the assessment and be considered for the position. Non-promotion eligible lists typically are pass/fail and promotion eligible lists are typically ranked. If the open eligible list created contains a veteran, one open list will exist. When there are no veterans remaining on the eligible list (i.e. hired, withdrawn) from an open list that also contains promotional candidates, two lists will be created: one open list and one promotion list. If two lists exist, the promotion list must be exhausted before the open list is considered.
Final Selection Process: Those who pass will be placed on an eligible list for approximately six months and all will be notified of their status. A Hiring Manager will consider those applicants eligible for hire. You will be notified if you are invited to participate in the final selection process which may include an interview, job simulation, work sample submission, or other evaluation method.
