Job Summary
As a Police Officer, you will play a crucial role in maintaining public safety and enforcing laws within the community. This position requires a dedicated individual who is committed to serving and protecting the public while upholding the highest standards of integrity and professionalism. You will engage with community members, respond to emergencies, and work collaboratively with other law enforcement agencies to ensure a safe environment for all.

Duties

  • On an assigned shift, you will operate a patrol vehicle or walk assigned areas to observe for violations of traffic or other laws while deterring and detecting criminal activity.
  • Respond promptly to radio dispatches, calls for service, emergencies, incidents, enforces traffic laws and issues citations for violations.
  • Conduct thorough investigations of crimes, accidents, and other incidents.
  • Serve warrants, summonses, search warrants, make arrests, direct traffic, and provide police escorts when needed.
  • Write detailed reports documenting incidents, arrests, and investigations. Testify in court and maintaining the records as needed.
  • Engage in conflict management and resolution during high-stress situations.
  • Participate in community outreach programs to build positive relationships with the residents of Salem.
  • Maintain physical fitness and complete ongoing training in law enforcement practices.

Experience
Candidates should possess the following:

  • Previous experience in law enforcement or related fields is preferred but not required.
  • Certification as a police officer in the Commonwealth of Virginia within one year of employment.
  • A valid driver's license is required.
  • A high school diploma or GED is required.
