What are the responsibilities and job description for the Equipment Operator I - Street Administration position at CITY OF SALEM TECHNOLOGY SYSTEMS - CITY OF SALEM?
Performs semiskilled work operating a variety of equipment in the construction, repair, and maintenance of streets, utilities, mowing, and related operations, and related work as apparent or assigned. Work is performed under the moderate supervision of the assigned supervisor.
Essential Functions
- Operates a variety of equipment such as front loaders, backhoes, dump trucks, pavement roller, asphalt hot box, infrared asphalt heater, concrete truck, etc.
- Installs and repairs traffic control devices such as street signs, barricades, and road cones; composes and generates image files for traffic control devices; applies and repairs pavement markings including traffic patterns, thermoplastic stop bars, crosswalks, turn arrows, and turn lane indicators; maintains compliance with the Manual of Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD).
- Hauls materials to and from job sites.
- Uses a variety of hand tools.
- Assists with digging out and placing forms for pouring concrete.
- Repairs damaged asphalt patches using infrared asphalt heater.
- Assists with a variety of grounds keeping tasks; maintains landscaped areas.
- Sets up work zones and flags traffic; puts out signs, closes lanes, sets up lane shifts, and closes roads as directed.
- Assists other crews as assigned.
- Assists with snow removal and ice control.
