What are the responsibilities and job description for the Sanitation Equipment Operator- Refuse Collection position at CITY OF SALEM TECHNOLOGY SYSTEMS - CITY OF SALEM?
Performs intermediate skilled trades work operating a refuse collection vehicle over an assigned route, transporting refuse to disposal site, performing safety checks and minor maintenance on equipment, and related work as apparent or assigned. Work is performed under the limited supervision of the Sanitation Superintendent. Limited supervision is exercised over assigned staff.
Essential Functions
- Drives sanitation truck over prescribed routes to collect refuse and trash and to transport it to established disposal areas; dumps front end loader trash containers and toters; supervises workers to ensure the safety of assigned crew.
- Drives a roll back, dumpster, and/or hook truck to collect dumpster pans with cardboard and other recycling materials; transports to recycling companies; operates an excavator and loader to move recycled items.
- Operates a knuckle boom loader to collect limbs and other bulk items on garbage routes; maintains overhead safety procedures for trees and power lines; transports to established disposal areas.
- Performs pre-trip inspection daily; checks vehicles for fluid levels and tire pressure; cleans assigned equipment; maintains tools; fuels equipment.
- Delivers trash dumpsters to businesses and toters to citizens.
- Assists with various special events; maintains cleanliness of streets and public areas; assists with setting up and taking down decorations.
- Assists with snow and ice removal including preparing and operating snow and ice removal equipment.
- Replaces and repairs toters, dumpster, and roll off pans.
