What are the responsibilities and job description for the WTP Operator Trainee position at CITY OF SALEM TECHNOLOGY SYSTEMS - CITY OF SALEM?
Performs intermediate semiskilled work operating a water treatment plant, taking samples, performing routine tests, ensuring proper plant operation, maintaining records and files, preparing reports, and related work as apparent or assigned. Work is performed under the moderate supervision of the Chief WTP Operator.
Essential Functions
- Collects samples for testing; performs lab tests and records results relating to plant operations.
- Checks all plant equipment and biological and chemical systems for proper operation and takes necessary corrective actions; regulates flow of treatment chemicals and adjusts chemicals as needed to meet treatment goals; backwashes filters.
- Replaces chlorine cylinders; fills chemical tanks; unloads and stocks chemical deliveries.
- Receives and responds to phone calls pertaining to the water and sewer department.
- Performs general custodial and grounds maintenance tasks; monitors security system and admits people on to the property; inspects fire extinguishers and SCBA equipment.
- Reads SCADA, meters, gauges and dials and keeps logs of readings
