About us: Willamette Valley Communications Center (WVCC) is a division of the City of Salem and the Salem Fire Department. WVCC dispatches for 32 Police, Fire and Medical agencies in Lincoln, Polk, and Marion counties in a 24/7, 365-day center.

- Fill out the observation form attached and email to WVCCcareers@cityofsalem.net to schedule a time for an observation.
Lateral Transfer Requirements/Minimum Requirements:
- Must be currently, or in the last 12 months, employed as a Telecommunicator and have 3 years experience and/or experience within the last 5 years dispatching Law enforcement for a municipality, state, or federal agency. This must be listed in your work history and verified to qualify for consideration for this position.
- Applicants must submit a cover letter describing how their skills and experience align with the stated job responsibilities and qualifications.
- Must pass the pre-employment drug test (including marijuana)
- Must pass the pre-employment background check, criminal background check, and psychological exam.
- Must pass the Criticall test (Typing requirement: 35 wpm with 95% accuracy).
- Must be able to work periodic overtime and a variety of rotating shifts including holidays, nights, and weekends.
- Pass a vision and hearing examination.
- Vision and Hearing: Oregon's minimum standards for employment as a Telecommunicator can be found in https://oregon.public.law/rules/oar_259-008-0011
- Successful completion of the Emergency Medical Dispatch (EMD) and Basic Tele-communicator courses provided by WVCC by the end probationary period.
- Graduation from high school or a G.E.D. and experience in performing high-activity call receiving work, communicating via telephone equipment, or dealing with emergency related requests from the public.
- Current DPSST Telecommunicator certification is preferred but not required
- Out-of-State agency experience will be considered on a case-by-case basis to determine eligibility.
- Must be able to obtain required DPSST state certification during the probationary period.
