The City of Salisbury is seeking a motivated individual to serve as the Administrative Specialist. An employee in this class performs a variety of advanced journey level administrative and technical support duties for a department or major operational unit of the city. Positions in the class require information processing, office management, and some program management tasks. Typically positions in this class are responsible for maintaining or coordinating departmental records for accounts payable, payroll, time sheets, monitoring of expenditures etc. and may assist in budget preparation. Administrative duties require tact and discretion in handling sensitive or confidential matters in the program areas. Customer service includes answering complex questions requiring a thorough knowledge of the department’s regulations and procedures. Guides generally include a variety of written technical manuals and instructions, as well as comprehensive rules and regulations. Sound judgment is required in performing the responsibilities. Work is typically performed under the supervision of the department head and is evaluated through observation, conferences, feedback from citizens and staff and evaluation of the quality and effectiveness of work processes. Administrative experience required, particularly with customer service. Financial and organizational experience is preferred. Strong candidates will demonstrate independence, critical thinking, and organization. Experience in Main Street or municipal government a plus.

Minimum Requirements:
- Education and experience equivalent to graduation from college or business school with an associate’s degree and considerable journey level secretarial or administrative experience including strong public contact. May require a Notary Certificate.
- Must have a valid NC Driver’s License
- Ability to work flexible hours
Preferred:
- Main Street and/or non-profit/municipal government experience
- 2-5 years’ experience in special events or programming
- Financial and Organizational Experience

Hiring Range: $$36,840.24-$52,681.54 (Depending on Experience)
$2,000.00 sign-on bonus to be paid as a one-time lump sum after successful completion of probationary period.
Eligible for 2.5% for Bilingual Pay for Spanish (Test Required)
