This position performs complex technical activities performing electrical inspections of commercial and residential buildings. Assures plans and construction are compliant with the National Electrical Code, the Washington Cities Electrical Code, state laws, and City of Sammamish ordinances and policies. Work involves reviewing and approving construction documents prior to processing permits, reviewing approved documents for compliance with construction, interpreting and applying adopted codes, and providing general operational support to the Permit Center.
Performs complex technical activities performing electrical inspections of commercial and residential buildings. Assures plans and construction are compliant with the National Electrical Code, the Washington Cities Electrical Code, state laws, and City of Sammamish ordinances and policies. - Conducts field inspections of residential, commercial, and public facility construction projects to ensure compliance with relevant codes, local and state laws, and City of Sammamish ordinances and policies.
- Reads and interprets electrical plans of projects, and residential and commercial plans and related engineering calculations for electrical components submitted for review to ensure compliance with applicable codes.
- Conducts and/or facilitates pre-application and preconstruction meetings; investigates complaints of applicable ordinance violations.
- Assists with interpretations of codes, regulations, and standards; determines and implements necessary field revisions to approved designs to satisfy site conditions.
- Reviews material testing reports.
- Responds to public inquiries, issues, and complaints related toe construction activities, standards, and administrative procedures; provides technical information to a variety of audiences (technical and non-technical parties).
- Maintains notes, files, and records documenting inspections and related work.
- Maintains knowledge of current electrical codes and developments changes in industry standards regarding electrical materials and methods.

- This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
High school diploma or GED required; supplemented by two (2) years of training in electrical engineering and a combination of building, mechanical, plumbing inspection, or construction experience; or an equivalent combination of education, certification, training, and/or experience.
Employees must be residents of Washington State.
CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENSES
Must possess and maintain a valid and active Washington State General Journeyman (EL01) Electrician Certificate or Master General Journeyman (ME01) Electrician Certificate with four years of journey level experience.
- May be required to possess and maintain a valid Washington State Driver License and the ability to drive a city-owned vehicle per established policies, procedures, and safety guidelines.
Two (2) years of experience or training in plan review, drafting, or blueprint reading; Washington State General Administrator Certificate (AD01) or Master General Journeyman (ME01) Electrician Certificate.KNOWLEDGE OF
- Methods and practices in construction and installing a variety of electrical equipment and ability to apply and explain construction code requirements as it pertains to the National Electrical Code, Washington Cities Electrical Code, and Sammamish Municipal Code.
- Local, state, and federal codes, regulations, policies, and procedures pertaining to development, and responsibilities pertaining to building and life safety inspections.
- Building and construction terminology and structural systems and components, and the standards and regulations pertaining to such.
- Skill in clearly communicating and understanding information in English, both orally and in writing, and use professional composition, spelling, grammar, and punctuation.
- Skill in maintaining a customer service orientation and positive image of the city to the public, courteous and professional approach to exchanging information, and adhere to strict confidentiality requirements.
- Ability to maintain accurate and complete records and prepare reports and the ability to meet deadlines and legal timelines.
- Ability to interpret and explain city, state, and federal codes, ordinances, specifications, policies, procedures, and standards to a variety of audiences (technical and non-technical parties).
- Ability to use Microsoft Office Suite and applicable department / organization specific software and to learn and become skilled in the use of other specialized software and online meeting platforms as may be required.
- Ability to maintain responsive and flexible handling of work assignments and prioritize work to complete assignments accurately and timely.
- Ability to regularly attend work and arrive punctually for designated work schedule, including when working remotely per an approved hybrid schedule.
