Training schedule: 7:45 a.m. - 4:30 p.m., Monday - Friday; upon completion of training, work schedule: 7:45 a.m. - 4:30 p.m., Tuesday - Saturday
- Performs onsite premise and structure inspections to determine violations of City codes.
- Makes inspections of junked vehicles to determine violations of the Junked Vehicle Ordinance.
- Makes inspections of vacant lots to determine violations of the Vacant Lot Ordinance.
- Consults with property owners to show where violations are present and enforces compliance.
- Consults with citizens regarding the results of their inspections.
- Attends and makes presentations to neighborhood associations regarding department code enforcement activities.
- Attends and makes presentations at special City events and other Code Compliance educational seminars and workshops as required.
- Makes field notes from inspections and compiles necessary reports on area zone assignments; maintains daily activity report of field investigative activities.
- Submits proper documentation for contractors to abate violation as specified.
- Researches property information and initiates appropriate notification procedures to result in violation abatement.
- Follows proper legal procedures to achieve abatement including the issue of citation or notice of violation in person, request for search and seizure warrants, and submittal for City contract abatement and court action.
- Enters inspection report data in hand-held, laptop or personal computer.
- Submits proper documentation for publication in local newspaper.
- Performs related duties and fulfills responsibilities as required.
- High school diploma or GED equivalent (recognized by the Texas Education Agency or a regional accrediting agency).
- Must become certified and State licensed as a Code Enforcement Officer within 18 months of hire.
- Valid Class "C" Texas Driver's License.
Applicant Information
- Unless otherwise stated, applicants are permitted to substitute two years of related full-time experience for one year of higher education or one year of related higher education for two years of experience in order to meet the minimum requirements of the job. One year of full-time experience is defined as 30 or more hours worked per week for 12 months. One year of higher education is defined as 30 credit hours completed at an accredited college or university.
